The Greater Good
Each member of the Zodiac has a different personality, which is tied to their Zodiac sign. People born in the year one of the Zodiac carries the staff have the same personality traits as that Zodiac.
They are shown to the world as men in red, black and gold robes, with a symbol on their chests marking the Zodiac they represent. Ageless and timeless, these Zodiacs are almost immortal since they cannot grow old or succumb to disease. They can, however, be destroyed by demonic forces.
Such a death among Zodiacs has only occurred once in the time of their existence. They have little in the way of offensive powers, but do possess a form of teleportation and agility. Their combined power also enable them to create an immensely strong force field for protection, which can withstand all kinds of magic.
Novak attacks the ZodiacsEdit
Novak had been attacking the Zodiacs once a year for decades, trying to steal Buddha's Mystical Staff. He had his demons follow Rooster, but instead they decided to follow Lo Pan, as he also knew the location of the Sacred Garden and would arrive before the Zodiacs do. The demons intended to lay a trap and wait for the Zodiacs' arrival.
The Death of RoosterEdit
Around the same time, Piper and Billie followed a sign to China Town, hoping it would lead them to Leo. Instead, they found Lo Pan, who had called out for help. Lo Pan then guided the two witches to the Sacred Garden, where they found Rooster under attack by Novak and his demons. Before they could intervene, Rooster was struck by a fire ball and dropped the staff. Billie quickly got the staff away from Novak and Piper tried to blast him, but he proved to be higly resistant to her power and shimmered away. Lo pan then rushed to Rooster, only to see him die and reincarnate in front of his eyes. Lo Pan informed Piper and Billie that it now fell on them to protect the staff.
The Charmed Ones protect Buddha's staffEdit
Lo Pan explained to Piper and Billie that Buddha's staff must be passed on to the next Zodiac every new year, or the enternal cycle will end. He asked them to keep the staff safe until it could be passed on to the next Zodiac at midnight. He warned them that they had to be clear of mind, or the staff would affect those around them with their personality. Novak saw this as an opportunity to steal the staff, as for the first time, it was not in sacred hands. He reasoned that with their weakened collective, the remaining Zodiacs would come out of hiding and find the staff, leading them straight to it.While Piper was at the manor, the Zodiacs appeared before her, demanding the staff back and threatening to kill her if she refused. Dog attacked her, but she hit him with the staff and tried to blow up the other Zodiacs, who shielded themselves. When Piper threatened to destroy the staff, the Zodiacs calmed down and were willing to reason. Dog explained that they believed Piper had stolen the staff. They revealed that they didn't speak to Lo Pan, as they considered him a mere servant and blame him for what happened. The Zodiacs sensed Rooster's death and started tracking the staff. Piper wanted to hand them the staff back, but Dog revealed that they could not touch it until it was passed on in the new year. If a Zodiac were to hold the staff before his time, it would upset the cycle and change the balance of everyhing.
The conversation was interrupted when Novak and his demons appeared. Dog took Piper outside while the others shielded them. Dog told Piper that protecting the staff was all that mattered and joined his brothers in the fight. The fight nearly tore up the manor until Paige arrived and the fight was taken elsewhere. Novak later kidnapped Piper and took her to the manor, where he took the staff from Phoebe and Paige and took control of them, turning them evil in the process. Novak ordered them to kill Lo Pan, revealing that as the guardian of the garden, Lo Pan is the key in keeping the cycle going, as without the garden, the Zodiacs are nothing.
Lo Pan becomes RoosterEdit
The sisters went to the garden to find Billie and Lo Pan and tried to kill them. Lo Pan told Billie that only she had to power to stop them, with her new projection power. Billie used her power on the sisters and turned them good again. The sisters and Billie then orbed to Magic School and used the staff to vanquish Novak and his demons.
Piper later returned to the garden and discovered that Lo Pan was elevated to the position of Rooster. Piper handed the staff to him and he assured her that she would find Leo. The new Rooster then started the ceremony and handed the staff to the next Zodiac in line, Dog.
