Saving Private Leo

Piper plans for Leo to attend a reunion of veterans of the Battle of Guadalcanal, telling the organizers that Leo is his own grandson. Leo in fact died at Guadalcanal. Two ghosts, Rick and Nathan, who were close friends of Leo and who also died at Guadalcanal, blame Leo for their death and seek revenge against the "grandson". Through their hatred they regain a sort of physical form. They appear at the manor and attempt to kill Leo, but when Leo knows the name of one of the ghosts and then they see Leo heal, they realize that the "grandson" is in fact Leo himself, and leave.

Realizing that Leo is a Whitelighter and that they can't kill him, Rick and Nathan plan instead to kill someone close to Leo. Maria, a teacher who is also a charge of Leo, is threatened by her student Greg. Leo orbs in and intervenes, and he and Maria convince Greg to drop his knife and leave. Immediately the ghosts appear, and one kills Maria with the knife while the other restrains Leo.

Leo is upset about Maria's death. Paige senses him and orbs to him. He has lost his Whitelighter powers. Paige tries to convince Leo that he is not responsible for what Rick and Nathan are doing or for their deaths at Guadalcanal. Leo refuses to listen, and Paige orbs back to the manor.

Rick and Nathan overhear the conversation and realize that Leo is helpless, but decide to make him suffer. They appear at the manor and one stabs Piper. Paige and Phoebe arrive and the ghosts leave. Leo comes upstairs and demands that the ghosts take out their anger on him. Piper leaves her body and says a spell that only ghosts can use to banish other ghosts. Leo regains his Whitelighter powers and heals Piper.

Leo attends the reunion and meets several people whom he saved on the battlefield, including the man he died saving.

Meanwhile Phoebe struggles to find a quiet place to write her advice column, not knowing that Cole is stirring up much of the trouble. Cole hires a personal assistant, who is a demon, and schemes with her to separate Phoebe from her sisters. He proposes to Phoebe that she move with him to an apartment. Phoebe agrees at the end of the episode.
