Kareem Scales is a young African-American witch with the power of Sound Wave Emission, who is in a romantic relationship with Tyler Michaels.

Kareem first appears in Will o' the Witch in the background with Tyler at Paige's house.

Kareem met Tyler sometime after the rebellion against Rennek. He has chosen to major in English, something that his family doesn't oppose because he at least has a direction in life. While discussing this with an insecure Tyler, he tells him what he imagines their future would be like, and he finds Tyler in all of them.

When Tyler becomes possessed by several vanquished demons, he shuts himself away in fear of hurting others—including Kareem—though he keeps reaching out to Tyler. When Tyler eventually goes to Kareem, the possession takes over and Kareem's family are put at the mercy of Tuatha. Despite everything that happened during and after Tyler's possession, Kareem continuously braves through hardships to be with him, including fighting against the Old Ones to cease their resurrection.

During the advent, Kareem encourages Tyler to close the portals, and personally destroys the demonic seeds planted in the Knox Academy students to save them and stop the Old Ones.
