"None of the above. We're caught in a cosmic void… between life and death."
Cole Turner[src]

A Cosmic Void is a space between life and death. Those trapped in the void are stuck between life and death, unable to move on. Those trapped there are able to observe other planes, though they are unable to interact with the people there except through true love, as it transcends all planes. The only exception to this rule appears to be Cole Turner.

History[]

Piper and Cole[]

In 2005, Piper Halliwell is infected with a poisonous thorn and fell into a magical coma. She became stuck in a cosmic void where she met Cole Turner, who had been trapped there since his vanquish.[1] Cole was invested in helping Piper, though she did not trust him. Cole informed her that she could only reach Leo with true love. It did not work at first, but when Piper was about to die, she called out for Leo and he was able to hear her. Shortly thereafter, Piper was healed by Wyatt and left the cosmic void.

It was then revealed that Cole was somehow able to interact with the physical world, and that he had set several events into motion, including the arrival of Drake dè Mon and the attack of the Thorn Demons, all in his attempt to get Phoebe to open up to love once more.[2]

Battle Against Neena[]

When the Charmed Ones faced Neena, she opened a portal and banished Piper to a realm of her creation. While there, Piper suddenly encountered Cole, who had somehow left the cosmic void and helped her escape. It was later revealed that Cole was assisting Penny and Patty Halliwell in finding Prue, who had gone missing.[3]

Cole revealed in a conversation with Phoebe that his soul was frozen and unable to move on, possibly due to being trapped in the void. He was later appointed as messenger to Prue Halliwell by the Elders after she became the caretaker of the Nexus of the All. He would be allowed to move on after redeeming himself.[4]

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Cosmic voids are sometimes mistakenly thought of as Limbo.
  • In astronomy, cosmic voids (also known as dark space) are vast spaces between filaments (the largest-scale structures in the universe), which contain very few or no galaxies.
