Ariel was a magical witch killed by her familiar, a feline named Shadow.

Ariel and Shadow
In 2001, Ariel sat down to perform a ritual in her home. Her familiar, however betrayed her by knocking over several potion bottles and by doing so murdered her, stole her powers, and gave him a chance to become an immortal warlock.
When Shadow attacked the Charmed Ones, they didn't know anything about him. That is, until the Book of Shadows turned to an entry on Seance, with some spiritual help from Penny. They used the Seance ritual to bring Ariel back, who informed them how she died and how to avoid helping Shadow become immortal. She reminded the Charmed Ones that "evil exists to spread loss" and to "be careful not to lose each other."

- Spell Casting: The ability to cast spells and perform rituals.
- Potion Brewing: The ability to brew magical potions.
- Scrying: The ability to locate objects or beings through the use of a crystal and a map.
- Mediumship: The ability to see and commune with spirits of the dead.
- Active Powers
- Projective Levitation: The ability to levitate objects and other beings without levitating oneself. Ariel used this to levitate several candles during a ritual she was performing. Her power was stolen by Shadow.
