Cleaners

From Charmed

Cleaner taking Wyatt in Forget Me, Not.
A Cleaner teleporting

Self-proclaimed Guardians of Magic, the Cleaners are neutral magical beings empowered by both Good and Evil that can alter and rewrite history. Existing beyond space and time, the sole purpose of their existence is to protect magic from exposure to non-magical human society at all costs. Using their powers to monitor the use of magic or change the course of history, bend or alter memories, warp reality, and in some instances even remove a magical being who they consider a risk to the protection of magic. As such they go in after an episode of magical exposure and will alter circumstances including rolling back time to change events, in effect changing history and creating an alternate history — or a restart of an adverse event to control the outcome and limit the exposure of magic. The Cleaners shown are a duo of highly motivated, immensely powerful beings; some may label them as the one of the most powerful beings because of this chronokinetic ability. They are impervious to a witch's active powers.

In appearance, the Cleaners display a glowing white aura emphasizing a white linen suit; the suit presumably showing they exist on the side of good.

They first appeared in the episode Forget Me...Not, where they erased Wyatt from existence because he conjured a fire-breathing dragon that wreaked havoc all across San Francisco. Eventually remembering Wyatt and realizing what happened, the Charmed Ones managed to get him back through forcing the Cleaners to clean up after their own intentional magic exposure and proving that Piper's motherly love for Wyatt was the strongest force there was to contain his power.

Their next appearance was in the episode Crimes And Witch Demeanors, where they cleaned up the threat caused by Inspector Sheridan taping the Charmed Ones and Darryl as they were using magic to stop a phantasm-enhanced criminal by editing the scene in all of history so that Darryl had committed murder. This led to a trial of magic before the Tribunal where in the end things were restored to normal at the last second and Phoebe was stripped of her powers due to her misuse of them helping cause such a situation in the first place.

The Cleaners were portrayed by Kirk B.R. Woller and Darin Cooper.

[edit] Notes

  • The introduction of the Cleaners is one of the major violations of continuity in Charmed. Though responsible for preventing magic from being exposed to human society, they don't show up when magic is exposed in the original timeline of All Hell Breaks Loose.
  • It could be theorized however, that the Cleaners were prohibited from interfering with the exposure of magic in 2001 since it was Prue Halliwell's time to die, as foreshadowed by the Angel of Death.
