Bauer was a news columnist at The Bay Mirror. When Elise Rothman, editor of the Bay Mirror and Phoebe Halliwell's boss, had Phoebe run the paper while she went on a date, conflict arose between Bauer and Tom Taylor. Tom felt that Bauer's column was a bit "bloated" and needed to be trimmed down a bit, but Bauer disagreed. The two carried on the dispute with Phoebe, who decided that she would edit the article. In the end, both Bauer and Tom Taylor were happy with Phoebe's changes to the article and the dispute was settled.
